The Lady Cardinals first home game was a one-sided win over Bradleyville.
Despite being without Head Coach Barry Wheeler, the Lady Cardinals swept their conference rival at home on August 31, 2021.
Assistant Coach Shylah Strickler and Interim Assistant Elizabeth Jordan led the varsity and junior varsity teams to 3-0 and 2-0 sweeps, respectively.
Coach Strickler attributed their success to their energy and positivity. “The girls smiled through the whole game,” she said. “They were winning and having a lot of fun and playing like a team.”
Team Captain Bianca Mitchell said, “We were all having a great time. It was our first home game, and everybody was playing for each other and not themselves. We all wanted to win. We all love the game, and we love each other.”
If there were doubts about the team’s talent or potential, those doubts were largely dispelled Tuesday night, but Coach Strickler knows that not every night is going to feel like a party.
“We have to be careful not to wear our hearts on our sleeves in future games when the going gets tough. When we get down and things aren’t going our way, then we’ll see if we can have some grit in those situations and keep our head up and play at that same level. If we can do that, we’re going to have an amazing season.”
The Lady Cardinals Volleyball Team includes seniors Aaliyah Weter, Bianca Mitchell, and Zoe Patterson; juniors Maddie Nalley and Olivia Maggard; sophomores Hope Cover and Sierra Jackson; and freshmen Annie Burkhart, Avery Gardner, Emma Finney, Evonne Hillman, Kali Purdome, Kerrigan Guerin, Millie Burkhart, Morgan Meyer, Raeleigh Little, and Ralen Hume.
