It’s Never Too Early to Start Winning

On April 24, the Chadwick fifth and sixth grade volleyball team placed first in the Chadwick Tournament.

Crane, Galena, and Sparta also participated in the tournament, which drew a large crowd and raised $1400 for the Booster Club.

The tournament concluded an undefeated season that included twenty-five games over four Saturdays in April.

The team was coached this season by Abby Bertoldie, Jenny Gardner, and Tonya Gardner.

“We learned a lot and we improved a lot,” Coach Abby Bertoldie said. “We worked on fundamentals and on things like learning to control our strength as the girls are getting older.”

Chadwick third and fourth graders also played volleyball throughout April. The team played in three Saturday tournaments. Other than a single close loss to Crane, the team won all of their games. They took first place in two tournaments and won second place in a third.

Courtney Johnson and Ashley Procell coached the team.

The team mostly worked on the fundamentals of the game, such as serving the ball over the net. Coach Courtney Johnson said she looks forward to seeing them continue to grow over the years and develop skills like defense and passing. She said she knows the team will continue to work hard and improve because of their amazing spirit.

“They are so supportive of each other,” she said, “that it is impossible to get down. They are always talking, always cheering for each other constantly.”
