Compassion Day

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, the NHS took an opportunity to give back to the community.

NHS Sponsor Mrs. Courtney Mitchell and school counselor Mrs. Misty Wilkerson accompanied  fourteen juniors and seniors to the Battlefield Mall where they rang bells for the Salvation Army. All money put into the kettle stays in the community where it is collected to help those in need.

Service is one of the National Honor Society’s four pillars alongside character, scholarship, and citizenship, so they felt it was important to continue their annual holiday tradition despite restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Students wore masks and practiced social distancing while they greeted shoppers and accepted donations.

NHS Historian Bianca Mitchell explained, “Even during a pandemic, there are people who need to eat, people who need money, people who need clothes, so somebody has to be able to sacrifice a little bit.”
