Heart and Determination Take Three to State

Coach Dana Meinders said many people have a mind set that cross country is just a great way to get in shape for other sports, such as basketball. But after coaching cross country, she said she respects it as a sport in its own right. “It takes heart and determination to compete,” she said.

Cross country districts were held at Springfield Underground on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Sophomore Hailey Stevens placed second, junior Sydney Guardiola placed eleventh, and senior Logan Petro placed fifteenth. Junior Haley House was not able to run in districts because of a trip to National Convention with FFA, but all three of the other runners placed high enough to qualify for the state competition on Saturday, November 3 in Jefferson City.

The competition proved to be tougher than last year, but Hailey Stevens still medaled, coming in 25th out of 160 of the state’s top runners. Sydney placed 111th and Logan Placed 157th out of 175 runners.
