On January 15, senior Mariah Aldrich signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Cottey College.
For the last four years, Mariah has played volleyball for the Lady Cardinals as well as Thr33 Academy and Apex Volleyball Club. As a junior, she was the Chadwick Max Preps Player of the Year and received First Team All-District and All-Conference Honors. Mariah earned First Team All-Conference recognition again this year and earned the Most Assists Award three times.
Mariah has worked hard to earn her place at the next level. “I have spent countless hours in and out of the gym, just working on making myself a better player, making sure that I’m performing the best that I physically can,” she said.
Mariah is excited about playing volleyball as a Cottey Comet, but she is also excited about beginning her college coursework. She plans on majoring in psychology with a possible minor in criminology.
Mariah has been a model student athlete, earning the Presidential Award four times, excelling within the FFA, and serving as president of the National Honor Society.
“I have really high standards for myself,” she said. “I spend a lot of time on my schoolwork.”
She attributes some of her success on and off the court to her competitive nature. “I like competing, knowing that there’s a challenge, that I have to overcome something. That sense of competition really motivates me to work harder.”Mariah hopes to continue her outstanding academic and athletic performance at Cottey College. She said, “I’m excited to get thrown into the mix and be a part of something new.”
