Both high school teams were eliminated over the weekend in the first round of districts.
The boys ended their season with a bittersweet record of 4-20. That’s a three-win improvement over last year’s record, but it only hints at the amount of improvement that the Cardinals made on the court. This year’s team lost a lot of close games, often with less than five players left on the floor, and showed a lot of heart. They are saying goodbye to three senior starters, but Mrs. Dhondt and the rest of her team are already looking forward to next season, which with the promise of a large freshman class, looks to be an exciting one.
The girls finished the season with a record of just 6-17, getting knocked off on Saturday by School of the Ozarks. But next year looks rosier for the girls squad as well. They will be graduating no seniors and will return all five starters, including current juniors Shayna Adams, Shelby Weter, Kayla Loveland, and Haley Farris.
And remember: just because the high school season is over, that doesn’t mean that Cardinal fans have to stay at home this week. The Chadwick boys and girls peewee teams will play Monday, February 22, 2016, at Spokane and Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Abesville. Games start at 6PM.
