On November 24, the Chadwick boys basketball team opened their season at home against the Billings Wildcats.
Lone freshman Evan Smith led the Cardinals in scoring with eleven points, followed by seniors Jaryd Collins and John Hicks with ten points each. But the pressure from the Wildcats was ultimately too much, resulting in a 81-47 loss.
Coach Melissa Dhondt looked at the game as a chance to re-calibrate. She said, “We don’t have a very deep bench or much live experience, so tonight was about seeing what things are going to be like for us.”
“We learned that we don’t deal very well handling pressure, that we don’t read each other very well, and we’re a little timid,” Coach Dhondt said. But she noted that a lot of their strengths were showcased as well. “Our fundamentals are looking better and our guys are communicating more on defense and when we run our plays, they work really well.”
